After the match, the players on the YULA team said they felt motivated to carry the feeling of their win over to the rest of the games of the season.
“When I stayed steady and didn’t overthink, I was able to play my best tennis… that’s something I definitely want to bring with me moving forward,” said Eden Benarouche ‘28, who added that she wanted to carry consistency and having a clear mind into the next game.
Several players on the team said that this game felt different from the rest because the team worked especially hard in order to win the match. Leora Elishis ‘26, said: “I felt most proud when I saw my teammates winning their matches since it was something that they really practiced for.”
Gabriela Fozailoff ‘28 said that although she felt disappointed about losing her match, she was very proud of her serves, which she had worked on since the beginning of the season, and of her team for pushing forward and securing the win. Although YULA won the game, there were many sets that were close calls. Meital Steinlauf ‘26 said that the intensity of the match motivated her to keep pushing, “Being neck and neck with the other team for most of the time and constantly ending up at deuce where it becomes anyone’s point made me really want to push myself harder.” She also mentioned that she felt very proud of her and her teammate Alex Mathalon ‘27 because this was the game they felt they played their best in.
The sportsmanship shared between both schools made the match stand out just
as much as the final score. For YULA, the victory was not only meaningful because of
the result, but also for their hard work that paid off before and after the game.
